CHAPTER 23

Selena awoke with a lion sized yawn when the sunrise reminded her that it was the start of a new day. She saw the red lights on her clock display six-thirty. Not enough time to get ready for school. Selena jumped from bed, realizing she had the second floor to herself as she reached the hall. The hot water tempted her to take a shower that was longer than need be. She couldn’t though because school was awaiting. Selena ran to her bedroom and danced her way into her clothes. She curled and flipped the ends of her purple locks and descended the stairs. The sounds of giggling could be heard from the kitchen when she reached the foyer.

Emma was rubbing her father’s shoulders, as he tried to eat his scrambled eggs. Selena figured that he must have cooked them since there was no burning smell lingering in the kitchen. She pulled a carton of orange juice and poured herself a glass, ignoring her stepmother’s uncharacteristic immature behavior. The cold fruity taste worked wonders for her in the morning, but the fluid almost erupted up her throat just as quickly when she saw Emma licking and nibbling on her father’s ear. Her hand reached inside his unbuttoned shirt, while she massaged his chest.

“Emma please, wasn’t it enough last night?” Alan whispered, brushing her off.

“You didn’t mind my moves last night,” she answered in a sultry voice.

She continued to rub up against Alan, while Bobby sat on the opposite end of the table eating his cereal. Selena uttered a grunt of disgust, swung her backpack over her shoulder and headed for the front door.

“Hey, where are you going?” Alan said, trying to break Emma’s embrace as he rose from the chair.

“I’m trying not to vomit. I’ll be waiting in the car, when you’re done. Don’t make me late for school.” She waved without turning, disappearing from the house.
